"Drive" by Judge Jackson!

As it happens the single is available for free: http://www.xopublicity.com/Drive.mp3

Also I love me some Zeppelin for road trips, and the dead head in me always keeps at least one Grateful Dead set in the mix (I prefer mid 70's, and of course a live version of "Tennessee Jed" is appropriate).

Otherwise Laura B summed it up really well.

Road trip music needs the perfect mix of albums that
a) make you think and appreciate the moment and
b) keeps you awake...

So here are my carefully assembled suggestions:

1. Upon leaving or approaching Washington state you must pay homage to the genre that put Seattle on the music map, grunge. Required listening: "Ten" by Pearl Jam, Temple of the Dog, The Singles Soundtrack

2. Americana. Proudly wave that red, white and blue. We live in a country where you can drive over 3,000 miles in one direction and still be within our borders, find the same burger menu at any McD's and a Starbucks along all major highways. Required listening: "Born to Run" by Bruce Springsteen, "The Big To-Do" by Drive-by Truckers, "Tuesday Night Music Club" by Sheryl Crow, "Wilco" by Wilco, "Gossip in the Grain" by Ray LaMontagne, "Full Moon Fever" by Tom Petty, "Scarecrow" by John Cougar Mellancamp, "Hotel California" by the Eagles, "American Recordings II & III" by Johnny Cash

3. When you need to stay awake, sometimes you just roll down the windows and sing-along to some great 80s tunes... Required listening: "Slippery When Wet" by Bon Jovi, "Pyromania" by Def Leppard, "Vivid" by Living Color, "Traveling Wilburys Vol 1" by Traveling Wilburys, "1984" by Van Halen, "Doolitle" by the Pixies

4. Take a musical stroll off the beaten path. (Dont blame me if you wander off your intended driving path...) Required listening: "For Emma, Forever Ago" by Bon Iver, Favourite Worst Nightmare by Arctic Monkeys, "Brothers" by The Black Keys, "The '59 Sound" by Gaslight Anthem, "Super Tartanta!" by Gogol Bordello, "Stay Positive" by the Hold Steady, "Streetcore" by Joe Strummer & the Mescaleros, "LCD Soundsystem" by LCD Soundsystem, "Mule Variations" by Tom Waits

note: All suggestions are albums and meant to be listened to in entirety. When else will you get an opportunity to listen to an entire album from beginning to end, the way the artist intended?

Enjoy. Hope that wasn't too much and long-winded.
Laura B.

Hmmmm when i'm on long journeys or a long period of silence I always play...

Anything by - Kelly C., Jill and Kate, Cheryl Cole, Gwen Stefani, Avril Lavigne (her first 2 albums), Katy Perry, Kings of Leon, Lily Allen, Natasha Bedingfield, Nickelback, Pink, The Veronicas.

(I'm very female dominated music wise lol)

And I'm not sure if you can get them on US itunes or not (if not try amazon.co.uk) but here we have mix albums released every few months with the biggest or best charting songs of the time period which are good if you want range of music rather than one particular persons album straight through. 'Now That's What I Call Music!' is the most popular variety album. The most recent is 'Now That's What I Call Music! 75' and the number goes down with past albums and current music. (Hopefully that makes sense)

A couple others you might wanna look up - Ellie Goulding, Lemar, Will Young, Alesha Dixon, La Roux, Robbie Williams, James Morrison, Parachute, Sophie Ellis Bextor.

Ok, that should keep ya busy, might find something you like amongst that haha :)
